Hughie Fury wants to fight Derek Chisora next after dominant win over Christian Hammer

Hughie Fury is eyeing a domestic blockbuster against Derek Chisora, his promoter has revealed, after his impressive victory over Christian Hammer on Saturday night.

Fury outclassed his German rival in Newcastle, forcing him to retire at the end of the fifth after taking a punishing beating.

The 27-year-old cousin of WBC champion Tyson Fury has moved a step closer to a world title shot of his own with that victory, moving up to fourth in the WBA’s rankings.

And BOXXER promoter Ben Shalom has revealed that veteran heavyweight Chisora is very much in Fury’s line of sight.

‘Hughie Fury can be a world champion,’ Shalom told Sky Sports.

‘Christian Hammer was no joke and I think we saw a Hughie that was landing cleaner shots, that was more confident in himself, more confident in his body, and had more power.

‘Whether Christian was injured or not, I’m not sure. He took a lot of shots and I think Hughie hurt him.

‘The heavyweight division at the moment is all over the place. It’s wide open.

Fury’s promoter, Ben Shalom, claimed that Chisora was offered a bout with his fighter this year

‘With Hughie, we’re going to look to try and make the Chisora fight early next year. That is what we feel is the next step-up for him.’

For Chisora, he has other business to attend to. The 37-year-old takes on Joseph Parker in Manchester at the end of the year, having lost to the wily New Zealander when they first met earlier this year.

Parker was awarded the victory via split decision and Chisora is desperate to avenge that defeat, with Shalom revealing that the Briton turned down a fight against Fury due to his desire to meet former world champion Parker again.

‘We offered Derek the fight,’ said Shalom. ‘I think he knows how good Hughie Fury is – and how technical he is.

‘I think he really wanted the Parker rematch. That was what he wanted. He didn’t want to fight Hughie Fury, but let’s see after December, it might be different then.’
